12 bamboos [2004/ bamboos, white paint, natural fabric wires]
Artist statement:
The Taoist thinks that everything have spirit and life, this time I try to help the dumped bamboo sticks to tells their stories.
Garbage has been a resource for many different artists, especially those who like me - poor, lack of marketing skills and rich friends. However we usually just treat the garbage as a "found footage" or "raw materials". This time I would like to focus on the garbage itself.
I went to the garbage station and just randomly selected few 'rubbish', including several bamboo sticks, a bamboo carpet, a sofa, a table and few other objects. At last I chose bamboo sticks and bamboo carpet as the central part of the installation.
Set up :
12 bamboos, white paint, natural fabric wires
12 bamboos taken from the garbage station were hung on the ceiling, the end of each bamboo stick painted white. Some words about the 'life of the bamboo' were written on them.
