Garbage Show [2004]

Artist statement:

Cleaning workers have been an forgotten group, they usually work alone and do not have enough power to negotiate with the contractors and thus the contractors exploits them on cutting wages, increasing workload and violating the law. The video Garbage Light is a documentary produced by Hong Kong Women Workers Associations (HKWWA). By investigating two cases of female cleaning workers, it reflects a problem that we would not think of when we throw something away. We will see that the clean environment we are enjoying is maintained by their sweat and blood.

Abstract:

Garbage isn't just something we dumped, it relates to many social issues and contain many possibilities. The Garbage Show is aimed at providing different angles for audiences to see what garbage really means and how it could transform. This exhibition combined a documentary video showcase, an installation and a web project.
